Key Things to Look for in Investor Pitches

Prior to having Bret Conkin of Fundfindr Media present his 5 minute and 15 minute investor presentations, we took a few minutes in class to list some of the key points that you as investors would consider along with your scorecards.  Here is that list:

Panel Evaluations of Team Pitches

For the record, here is how the panel of 5 independent judges ranked the team pitches (1st choice, 2nd, 3rd) in our last class:

Investor Scorecard - Summary Findings

By now you should have received your grades on this assignment. If you have not, please contact me.

As you now know, this was not an easy assignment. It is a subjective
area and there is no one-size-that-fits-all answer. I was very
impressed by your papers. Everyone in the class did well on the
assignment with several earning bonus grades for going to the trouble
to test their scorecards on actual investors.

Vancouver Enterprise Forum

I made reference to the VEF (Vancouver Enterprise Forum) in class on Saturday.  The VEF is an excellent way to hear case studies and panel discussions about issues that entrepreneurs face.  It is also an excellent business networking forum.

The VEF is usually held on the fourth Tuesday of the month after work at Science World. Please contact me if you would like to join me for the June meeting.

Videotaping of Group Presentations

In a similar (undergrad) class I have taught, we had the SFU camera team videotape the "pitches" and comments from the mentor panel. This was very well received, and most of the teams asked that their pitches be posted to YouTube where they could be referenced by family and friends.
