Videotaping of Group PresentationsIn a similar (undergrad) class I have taught, we had the SFU camera team videotape the "pitches" and comments from the mentor panel. This was very well received, and most of the teams asked that their pitches be posted to YouTube where they could be referenced by family and friends. We discussed this briefly during our first class, but I did not get a consensus as to whether you were interested. Some people thought they might be more nervous in front of the camera. Some didn't feel they wanted anyone outside of the class to see them. I think there may have been other reservations that were not expressed. All reservations aside, you will most likely have to perform in front of a camera at some point in your professional career. It will be difficult for me to get the SFU camera people again... especially on a Saturday afternoon. I have, however, been able to get at least a tentative commitment from a very interesting local start-up, Fundfindr Media, to come in and videotape. Fundfindr is an online community that is focused on entrepreneurship. It's an educational forum that promotes interaction between entrepreneurs, investors and professional services providers. They have offered to put all of the class pitches up on their site or just those who want to go public with their pitches. Out of courtesy to fundfindr President, Bret Conkin, and his film crew, I need to give them a yes or a no fairly soon. I would like you to discuss this within your teams on Friday. On Saturday, I will ask for a show of hands regarding the option of being videotaped. If more than 5 people do not want this, I will decline Bret's offer. Sound fair? |
