Key Things to Look for in Investor Pitches

Prior to having Bret Conkin of Fundfindr Media present his 5 minute and 15 minute investor presentations, we took a few minutes in class to list some of the key points that you as investors would consider along with your scorecards.  Here is that list:

  • fit with personal background and preferences (e.g. technology, retail, manufacturing, etc.)
  • barriers to entry,IP
  • clarity of idea
  • do they have a proof of concept?
  • strong management team
  • clear milestones
  • identify use of investment
  • ROI of 30X (well.. something like that!)
  • why should we belive the story?
  • credible market research
  • a track record of previous successes
  • personal expertise
  • contingency plans in case the main plan fails
  • enthusiasm, conviction
  • clear market pain and solution that addresses pain
  • progress to date
  • when/if more funding is needed
  • amount of money we as investors have to invest
